General Information
The International School Rheintal (ISR) serves the educational needs of the international community of the Liechtenstein, St.Gallen and Vorarlberg region. ISR opened in 2002 with classes from Grades 1 (6 years) through Grade 7 (13 years). Since its inauguration, the school has added a kindergarten for 3 to 6 year olds. Furthermore, one grade level has been added in each successive year. As of August 2007, the school offers all classes up to grade 12.
The language of instruction is English. Extra support will be given, if required. German is taught at all levels.
The school is housed in an apartment building which previously served as a home for senior citizens. The building was renovated to meet the needs of the school. Two additional buildings, each with two classrooms, and a third building with a library and six class rooms are also located on the site. Playground equipment and recreational spaces outside are available to the children.
The school has two science laboratories, a computer laboratory, a music/drama room and an art & craft room. One pavilion can be converted into a large open area for concerts and whole school functions.
School Organization
The school year consists of 175 teaching days and extends from the end of August to the end of June, with holidays in October, December/January, February and at Easter. Additionally, the school observes Swiss national and cantonal holidays. Grades 1 to 12 start at 9:10am and end at 3:40pm. Pre-School and Kindergarten begin at 9:00am and end at 12:30pm (1/2 day program) or 3:30pm (full day program). Maximum class sizes are targeted at 22 students. Hot lunches are available for the students – these are paid for separately by the parents.
In addition to the basic academic program, students will participate in both local and extended field trips. Field trips will vary in length from 1 day to 1 week for older students. Students will have opportunities to perform music and drama and to display artwork.
After-school activities are offered. Sessions run for approximately 7-8 weeks and the activities offered vary throughout the year – depending on student interest and availability of instructors. Examples of activities which have been offered are cooking, information technology, adventure challenges, recorder, calligraphy, arts and crafts, chess, drama, yoga, survival skills, gardening and band.
Parents and Volunteers
The school welcomes parental involvement in the school. This involvement may take many forms – including organizing social and fundraising activities and volunteering within the classrooms, office or library.
Insurance
Parents are expected to maintain health, accident and liability insurance for their children. The school’s insurance does not provide coverage for students.
