With the submission of the building application, the next big step towards the new school building for the International School Rheintal has been taken.
On May 20, the documents for the building application for the new school building of the International School Rheintal were signed and submitted. The project is currently open for review and the construction visors have been set up. The signing of the building rights on the building site of the local community of Buchs for 50 years was signed.
“The organizational effort for a new building of this size and standard is, of course, huge, but the gain for our students as well as for the city of Buchs is much higher," says Heiner Graf, Chair of the Board of the International School Rheintal.
Ecologically sustainable new building for ISR
With the new building on the corner of Werdenbergstrasse and Hanflandstrasse, a three-story building will be constructed, just a few meters from the current school, which will be an integral part of the Buchs educational campus alongside the BZB and OST. The project costs of around CHF 30 million are borne entirely by the HILTI Family Foundation Liechtenstein. One focus is on the use of sustainable materials, domestic plants, light-flooded classrooms and a modern, integrative and safe infrastructure. The newly built double-gymnasium will be shared with the city of Buchs, so that various sports clubs and groups can benefit from the new building.
A spacious green area that frames the building, with outdoor learning zones, a playground and break areas, is planted with native plants that form a natural barrier to the street and at the same time contribute to the biodiversity of the area.

We also have a central learning hub where students work collaboratively as well as specialist spaces such as our science laboratories, performance spaces, gymnasium and art and design studio. Creativity, knowledge, responsibility and learning go hand-in-hand at ISR and this campus firmly supports our philosophy and approach to education.» says Liz Free, who, as the director of ISR, brings a lot of experience with student-centred interior design.
The groundbreaking for the new building is planned for autumn 2021 and the move from the previous building is scheduled for summer 2023.
The International School Rheintal in Buchs enables children to receive an international education from kindergarten through 12th grade as part of the International Baccalaureate Programme. ISR is an English medium school and is aimed at internationally oriented families in the region and expat employees who work in the Rhine Valley. This way ISR makes an important contribution to the recruitment of internationally operating companies from the Alpine Rhine Valley region including the Principality of Liechtenstein.
